Various State Owned 2-30 acre Parking Lots & Parking Structures (In-progress)
While working with Fluent Engineering, Inc. we collaborated with Locke Engineers, Inc. to design a significant project for the Oregon Department of Administrative Services (ODAS) in Salem, Oregon, which involved upgrading the parking lot lighting and designing EV charging stations. This extensive project spanned 16 parking lot sites and structures, including Fleet & Parking Services Salem Motor Pool.
The new lighting system featured advanced onboard controls with photocell dimming and occupancy sensing. The luminaires are programmed to dim down to 50% when the parking lot is vacant at night and increase to 80% when occupied, significantly enhancing energy efficiency and security.
A critical aspect of the design process involved minimizing glare and light trespass. By carefully selecting specific luminaire distribution types and conducting thorough site photometric analysis, we ensured the lighting was effective without causing unnecessary light pollution.
One of the unique challenges of this project was managing the requirements of 16 separate sites, each with its own power distribution needs. Some sites utilized existing available power, while others required new transformers and panels to meet the power demands of the new EV charging stations.
The project aimed to improve security lighting across all sites and provide access to EV charging where there was none before. This development is particularly beneficial for employees with electric vehicles, offering them better access to charging stations throughout the city.
Overall, this project successfully enhanced the safety, functionality, and sustainability of the State parking facilities, benefiting both the organization and its employees.
